Guy from my work got fired for sniffing pills, wants people to pay for his lights.

I'm calling Shennaigans on the OP:

/u/McTingles submitted to /r/cocaine the post Protip: put coke in your ass which sort of indicates that /u/McTingles has some sort of drug taking issue himself/herself.

Screenshot in case it gets removed

How much oxy was the guy taking? /u/McTingles doesn't give a whole lot of information. This may just be an occasional recreational thing, not a daily in deep drug addiction. And that would explain why he put up a gofundme account.

And was that really the guy's mother? The image was put there by /u/McTingles. How do we know that he or someone else didn't just put "mom" there? McT has only been a Reddit member for a short time.

(I found this out during a post I was making - here is the rest of it)

So allow me to speak up for the guy and some unanswered questions.

Was the drug intake affecting the quality of his work? If not then why did the company fire him? And if the answer is because the company has a policy of not hiring drug addicts then the further question is why?

A private company is not in the business of law enforcement. That should be left to the police. If the guy in question had committed a crime against the company (ie fraud) then yes, he would deserve to be fired and would also have the police and courts on him.

But snorting crushed oxy? Again - if it is affecting the quality of his work then yes he should be fired. But why would a company waste time and money policing its staff for committing an act that is a) not affecting the quality of their work, and b) not criminal?
