To the guy who is so excited as he just bought his first NFT because only him owns it, look what took me 2 minutes to do. I own it too now.

You have to know that isn’t comparable. Bitcoin is worthless without people interested in it so the OG is the investment that makes sense. Go make a fork. It’s never going to compete with Bitcoin. Prints are inherently not perfect recreations, and originals genuinely have one instance. We also tend to ascribe some intangible value to those since the artist interacted with it directly. There is no original when you buy NFT art. I don’t care how much you say you own it. Who the fuck cares. I’m gonna download it and use it as my phone wallpaper for free because that’s the beauty of digital art. There’s no elitism. Everybody can enjoy the same product on equal ground. If it’s a PNG hosted on a server, there is no such thing as an original. Everybody has equal access to that file.

NFTs have use cases for verifying legitimacy of mints. That’s potentially a very valuable thing and I’m a big fan of NFT technology in theory. But, again, in the case of digital art, I don’t give a flying fuck about owning it and I’ll always maintain anybody buying it purely to say they own it is stupid and driven by greed. If you plan on using it commercially and want to prove you have the rights, sure. If you just want to support the artist, awesome. If you’re buying it because it’s scarce and your brain releases a little dopamine because you get to say you own a “one of a kind”…. I’m sorry but that’s the mindset driving the market right now and it is stupid.
