This guy's Ace Ventura is so good

Uh, I doubt it. What's the point of showing how ridiculous a character is if we already know they are?

It is actually quite common to satirize popular comedy, especially if the subject itself is a big part of pop culture as "Ace Ventura" is.

SNL is goofy over-the-top ridiculousness, but people have been satirizing that series for decades. Making a statement of how ridiculous and often unfunny it can be, while poking fun at the people who enjoy it. In a lighthearted sense, of course, as is often the case with the criticism aspect of parody. This clip from a 2010 episode of "Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!" for example.

Exaggerating the most ridiculous aspects of something is often the basis of true satire. Similar to how most sitcoms are full of zany characters and absurd situations, but can still prove fantastic comedic fodder in parody by focusing in on those over-the-top elements and pushing them one step further. "Too Many Cooks" plays off this somewhat.

Taking away the film's production value, the big name cast, the more developed story, et cetera... and leaving nothing but an Ace Ventura impersonator running around doing absurd things in public... that is where the comedy lies.

It strips away all but the core elements of the character and then exaggerates those remaining elements for comedic affect. As is usually the way in parody. Taking the most ridiculous aspects of something and then blowing them even further out of proportion. In a sense, playfully criticizing the audience just as much as it is criticizing the character. Making the "joke" (or in this case, the character) seem as absurd as possible so the audience will feel dumb for laughing at it in the first place.
