Do you guys also have those moments when you stop and think "damn, people really do believe that"

I have these moments nearly every hour of every day.

Existence of an all powerful omnipotent god is impossible. The 'immovable object' fallacy highlights this very well. I was at a gathering one time and a pastors wife was there--a friend of the family--and she asked me if I believed. I said "no, I don't believe in an omnipotent, all powerful god. It's not logically consistent. I do believe, however, that beings or entities of near omnipotence COULD exist, but that their 'power' would be derived simply from a vastly superior mastery of science, technology, and their understanding of the universe." and brought up the whole 'sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic' stuff, and explained that everything in the bible could be better explained by such things, and would still allow for many of the things that occurred in the bible to be true. She said something along the lines of "well you gotta have faith. yadda yadda"

I don't believe that near omnipotent beings exist, only that they COULD, but at least my explanation of how they would have achieved it is at least POSSIBLE. She refused to see the logic and rationale in it though. THAT is what boggles my mind more than anything--the fact that they don't believe in a more rational position, even if it can still support much (if not all) of what is written in the bible.
