Guys, please don't lie about your height.

I don't need to lie--at 6', I'm fairly comfortable with my height not being a factor in anyone else's preferences.

But the fact remains: because you took umbrage at his height lie, means height is important for you--it's either that, or you erroneously think that height has some factor on weight (they are two independent factors, mind you), which also means you have some standards about height AND weight.

Now, I am not saying that it's not bad to have a preference. Never be ashamed of what you prefer in a partner. However, if you know you have something against short guys, or if you have something against overweight guys--basically, if there is anything about a guy that would turn you off of a guy, then it is literally in your best interest you blatantly state that, either on your profile or in an early conversation.

My next item is, he didn't have any pictures? No full-body pictures, or non-angled face pictures? You can at least roughly tell how tall anyone is from their picture (given there's no photoshop or angles involved).

Lastly: A guy would lie about their height mostly because he tends to run shorter than the average or desirable height--he just wants a wider range of women to be interested in him. Mind you, it isn't just men who lie online about things (i.e. height, money, status)--women lie too: weight, body image, interests (I've seen them all personally--as in, I know for a fact). For both genders, the lies can be different, but overall the name of the game is "I want to attract the most partners possible--because I want to find The One, who'll fall in love with me and won't care if I'm [negative trait here]."
