Guys who've moved abroad for a fresh start/to rock the boat, how did it go?

Not abroad but i moved from one side of Australia to the other. It's like a 4hr flight and 2-3hr timezone difference.

Let me tell you that the first 3months are great. You'll love it. but soon enough the honeymoon phase will be over. I think the biggest struggle is friends. Either you'll have trouble making friends(especially if you're working Fulltime like me) or you won't feel part of any friend group/you compare your current friends to your friends back home.

Overall though, as long as you fully immerse yourself in the place, then you'll do well. I think if you're introverted like me you'll decide within 3-6months whether you like the place or not. Whereas it miight take you a little longer to decide whether you like the city if you're extroverted(particularly because you're always giving different things a try).

Some minor tips:

  1. Don't keep repeating where you're from/comparing home to the new area. I stopped bringing up i come from the other side of Australia..you might think it's interesting but it get's old REAL quick.
  2. Attend/do everything. Don't be afraid to try new things.
  3. The people who will help you the most are your room mates/Work Colleagues..if you don't know anyone else. You might not like certain people but they could have some dope friends that you have a lot in common with.
  4. Most of all don't think suddenly everything is going to workout. Unless your biggest obstacle is where you're from, you usually bring the same toxic HABITS over to the new place. For me in particular i thought i would be a lot more outdoorsy/gym but i didn't. You can leave people/places but habits are things you wrestle with.

All the best.
