Do you guys find yourselves falling in and out of love with photography?

That's a single excuse that you don't have to live by. I agree with everything you've said except "Never turn your hobby into a job". I make more money than I ever have before doing photography and while it has worn down my passion in a few ways, in others it's extremely fulfilling and excites my passion for it.

What I meant by my earlier comment is that, if I take a photo, for my hobby, on vacation, and then later make that photo available for sale, I am not deteriorating my passion for the art in any way. I'm just making money on something I would have done anyway. I don't feel the need to do this more because I already have a job. It's just supplemental. I'm not contracted by anybody to do this work and it doesn't feel squandered by that. It doesn't cheapen anything for me.

Don't let a good quote rule your life. Not everybody operates the same. It bums me out that great artists might not try harder to be seen because they see it as "work" to sell their art and would rather work unsatisfying jobs just to not ruin their favorite medium.
