My gym is across the street from a high school and a month ago they opened up membership to its students at a discounted rate. It only took 4 weeks for ownership to rethink this decision and they’ve put all those memberships on hold. I guess they received an absolute flood of complaints from long term members about all the shenanigans that came with the students. Some of the ones I met asked me to show them how to squat and I was more than happy to help, but many of the others were leaving weights around, recording other random members, and just generally acting out and wasting everyone else’s time. I get that some older people will behave poorly too but these kids took it to another level.

It’s a shame as the school has its own large workout facility (fully paid for by taxpayers) but it’s only available to the student athletes. And from what some of the students I met told me, their school’s facility is really big and could accommodate them but the school’s athletics said it’s only for them.

What a mess. I feel bad for the students who just wanna train like the rest of us but can’t because their peers can’t behave and the adults in charge at the school are incredibly self-centered.
