I had my first session tonight and it was awful.

I'm a little confused what actually went down at the session. Were you prepared? Did you know the songs? How many weeks did you have to learn the setlist, and what was your process for learning the songs? (Notation, TAB, by ear, etc.?) What was the actual "thing that happened" that derailed the session? Were they playing the songs faster than you expected, different key, changing around the arrangement, etc.? How do you know the person who made the mistake was actually you and not the drummer or guitarist?

To prevent this from happening again in the future I think you need a clearer picture of the actual, specific, preventable thing that went wrong, so you can feel more confident for your next session. For example "they kept changing the keys of the songs, and I haven't learned how to do that yet" is a specific and solvable problem. Not just vaguely "I was in way over my head, generally speaking."
