"I had no other way to get somewhere" doesn't justify drunk driving

I am completely against impaired driving, but I accidentally did it once and have felt extremely guilty since. Nobody got injured thankfully. I was attacked and threatened by my ex's unstable roommate. Getting away was all I could think of. The night only got worse for me but I safely parked my car in my driveway then proceeded to call a ride to come get me from possibly being sexually assaulted by my neighbor. Many people freaked out that I'd went missing that night plus the way I apparently had my SUV wedged in beside my house raised huge red flags. Everyone knew something was up if I'd done the thing I'm against most.

Was many years ago and I still beat myself up over how stupid that was of me, I can't fathom how people do it day in and day out without any worries.
