Try switching the channel your 2.4 is using. If you have a mac, click on the wifi icon while holding the option key, "Open Wireless Diagnostics", then in the menu bar (far top left) go Window -> Scan, give it a second, look at all the wifi hot spots around you, look on what channel they are (scroll a bit to the right), you'll want to change your wifi's channel to whatever channel has no other (nearby, look at the RSSI, the bigger the number, the stronger the signal at your laptop) wifi networks on it (or the fewest number), then google "change wifi channel <name of your router model/company>".
