Oil crisis and oil price regulation started during Nixon's administration. Carter's whole term was fixing it and moving deregulation forward. Carter secured all US interests when he handed Panama Canal away. It has worked perfectly. Basically all treaties Carter made worked well for the US.

Many things that carter fixed became long lasting policies that were associated with Reagan.

• Afghanistan policy was set up by Carter's administration. Reagan did followup.
• Carter doctrine was the red line drawn to the Soviets in the Middle East. Every president after Carter has followed it until recently. Now China and Russia are making inroads.
• Carter also nominated Paul Volcker to run Fed who was also good for for Reagan. Volcker crushed the inflation.
