Happy Canada Day /r/boardgames!

Canada Post did a solid job of positioning themselves as the go to shipper for most of the major online retailers that ship in Canada. So the unlike 2012, people now shop online thing? Moot. That's one of the few things Canada Post has done right. That's why their parcel deliveries keep increasing each year.

Those dozen people you know? All probably got that stuff shipped by CP. If it was by fed ex? They likely live in a major city (Where Fed ex can compete) and still likely paid more for (admittedly quicker) service.

That's the big thing. Major cities. Canada is mostly not major cities. I'm sure a private company could handle an additional million + parcels each year, but doing so and servicing the biggest serviced postal area in the world? Not so sure.

How many additional trucks is it going to take, how many additional drivers, employees etc to exclusively service just Northern Ontario? How will their cost not significantly increase? And they are already more expensive.

They won't remain profitable, or people in more rural areas, and smaller towns which again is most of Canada, are going to get poor service or have to pay an arm and a leg for it.

Canada Post is going to where. Even if there is a stoppage. Even if there is a long term stoppage. Because even when private couriers rush in to fill the void, as soon as the stoppage ends, Canada Post comes back on to the scene, as a cheaper shipping option.

Also, what does the monopoly on service have to do with anything? There is nothing stopping Fed Ex from trying to push Canada Post out as the primary Parcel delivery service in Canada. So why haven't they?
