Its been said for years that the person that truly made star wars was Lucas ex wife. The studio saw it as a failure before it was even complete and it was supposedly a huge mess. She edited it and by all accounts made chicken salad from chicken shit. Marcia Lucas had nothing to do with the prequels as she had been divorced and distanced from everything by George. The Phantom Menace feels in so many ways like what A New Hope seemed to be before she got her hands on it. A slow plodding mass of scatter brained ideas. I dare say, if just one of the yes men involved in TPM was replaced my her, we'd have a different trilogy.
