Harassment in public

People in my country generally don't go up to others and say things directly. However, I definitely am kinda conscious about whether people are looking at me when I'm out with my trans boyfriend, and I think one or two people have stared at us for inappropriate amounts of time, but that's it. We've been mistaken for sisters, though, and I think most people looking at us just think we're BFFs or something. I did mildly panic one time when I thought a woman was heading straight towards us but luckily she wasn't.

I did also kinda accidentally contribute to the problem because I saw two men being kinda intimate in a jokey / flirty way and stared at them long enough for one to notice and put his arm protectively around the other one. I was just really surprised because I'd never seen a potential gay couple in public before because I live in a conservative country, and started wondering if they were actually together and then if they were expats, while also feeling happy because I'm queer myself. Buuuuut yeah that was rude and I feel bad about it.
