Harry Melling (Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter films) has had the most promising career trajectory among the HP cast so far.

I'm watching it as I type. I have mixed feelings. I like it because it has some of my favorite actors - Rob Pattinson, Charlie Hunnam, Harry Melling. Sienna Miller was replaceable, they could've gone for a more seasoned actor there.

I like the film cause I've hardly watched serious movies about exploration this past decade. Set in the forest that's not a horror/thriller but about exploring. The aesthetic reminds me of 90s staples like Jurassic Park & Anaconda franchise. Even Titanic was about finding a lost ship/heart of the ocean. So I like that aspect of the film. Lots of greenery, lake scenes.

But the message the film is trying to drive across is ludicrous. Seems like ( although I can't be too sure) they're trying to apply 21st century woke concepts to early 20th century. And as a brown person watching white people finding it hard to grasp the concept of "savages" being "equal" to them in thought, being able to exercise equal measure of common sense...it's just makes me snigger. Because nothing much has changed.

How frequently I come across Westerners who think there does not exist a civilized world beyond them never seizes to amuse me. It's a white savior film that's trying to be woke.
