6+ billion people exist on this planet and they're doing just fine.

I would take a wild guess that many of those people on this planet are not "doing just fine."

You seem to hold a very innocent view of the world. Maybe you've lived a sheltered life. There's nothing wrong with that. I would never want my son to grow up and see the horrors that I have.

Anyway, to answer your original question, I used to be a very empathetic person. But that part of me isn't here anymore. I have been burned and betrayed so many times. I have watched people destroy each other and themselves. I see death every day in the name of religion and other silly shit. The people try to tell me what I can and can't do because of their religious beliefs, well, I wish they would just die. The things people will do for a dollar are sick. But that's the world we live in. I don't choose to be like this, it's just a reflection of the society I live in.
