I hate when people use the "some people have it worse than you" excuse to write off actual issues.

Watch me get downvoted but I don't care. I understand what you're saying, but this thought helps me put my problems into perspective and think about how good I have it on any given day and I remind my sister about it whenever she gets down. We're both Kurdish women who got out of the Middle East when we were teens ( we're in our early 20s now). Life is by no means perfect but it sure as hell beats being in the middle of an ethnic cleansing right now. We should always strive to make our community better no matter how good we have it, but also recognize that we have so many tools and privileges to help us fulfill our potential. I find that I become more prone to negative thought patterns when I look to it from your perspective, and I think many of my friends deal with mental illness because my generation tends to focus so much on the negative. Either way, I hope you solve whatever is bothering you and find peace.
