Hate that wine is such a huge part of the “self care” package, especially for women

ACA is short for adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families. If it doesn’t apply to you then you are blessed. My parents weren’t drinkers or substance abusers, very intelligent too. Yet my mom had come from a physically, emotionally, sexually abusive home, so that manifested as rage and neglect. It can also manifest as workaholism, or other types of abandonment, and that dump a lot of shame on the children. I was adamant for many years that my mom had helped me, she was my savior… because in order for me to survive my traumatic childhood I had to be in denial… don’t think don’t feel don’t speak…the first time I went to a meeting all I could do was grip the chair to prevent me from running out of there, tears streaming down my face, unable to speak. That was 5 years after I had been told by a therapist my mother likely had narcissistic traits, which Exploded my mind and I could not accept at the time.

It’s a normal response to an abnormal childhood. Little bits of trauma and neglect add up to complex ptsd…

So it’s not all about alcohol… very worth while to explore even if only to share with others who may need it. It’s an off shoot off the AA program but it helps a lot of people. Take cares
