I hate writing essays on “why choose this major”

The most important thing is erring away from being general and finding the compelling, specific story that motivated you to pursue environmental science.

Think back to a very specific memory - special to only you and few other applicants - that sparked your interest in environmental science. When you were a little kid, what did you do outdoors? Where did you go? Why do you care about the environment? Has the climate change crisis affected you personally?

Was there something you saw or experienced that really stuck with you? Growing up, what were your favorite places to go? Are there any figures in the field of environmental science or any books you read that inspired you?

Look specifically into the environmental science course offerings of each university. Figure out specific programs that they offer, and look into the research and contributions of some of the professors. Mention these by name to show that you are well researched in terms of what you can learn at the university.
