Having the 7th and 8th place teams in LCS playoffs felt kinda pointless

I think the point being missed is that in wider sports "playoffs" are generally quite prestigious to an extent, you generally have to be a good team to qualify for them, there's some excitement involved in just making the playoffs and once teans qualify it's likely to be tough as everyone is aoready good but raises their game another level since it's playoffs. Think about NBA, NFL playoffs for example, or in football the Champions League (which is essentially a big playoff competition where only the top teams around Europe qualify).

Playoffs are cheapened if the mediocre teams get in, and if practically the whole league qualifies then its almost like a different separate tournament altogether which in turn cheapens the regular split since why bother in regular split if you can put minimal effort in and qualify for the playoffs easily.
