Just to clear one thing in your sentence, I've stated this position before here and I will reiterate again that I've met many Pacific Islanders all these years, enough to be fully convinced that not only are they worlds apart from Asians in terms of culture and social outlook, they are also a class above Asians IMO.

Unlike Asians, there is far greater grassroots awareness and activism among PI ppl about necolonial racism. They do not take crap from whites and are certainly not doormats for whites to come in to acculturate them. They've done far more than Asians have, in defending and preserving their cultures and languages in the face of colonization.

In terms of socio-economic development, modern PI cultures have more similarities with African-American and Hispanic and Native American cultures than with Asian culture. That is, they have a developed a counter-culture to resist mainstream white America.

The AAPI term is ludicrous. Pacific Islanders are not even in the same league, not just in culture but how they have cultivated their image.
