... you realize this was in response to the Meccans driving out the Muslims from Mecca?

The story is basically this. Muhammad started preaching in Mecca and was mocked. Fine, he taught "you follow your religion we will follow ours, leave us alone." The Meccans refused and started physically assaulting Muslims including torturing and killing Muslims, especially slaves that converted. Eventually the assault and threats on their lives were so great the Muslims fled to Yathrib, leaving their goods, homes, etc.

In response, the Muslims raided caravans that were owned by the leaders that drove the Muslims out. Specifically Abu sufyan, abu Jahl, Abu Lahab.

Abu sufyan was really pissed about this and went out to squash the Muslims once and for all at Badr. This failed and the Muslims won.

So no, I wouldn't say Badr was the Muslims' fault.
