He has wanted to play hockey since he was 4 years old. We could never afford it. We finally made it to a point in our lives where we could help him pursue his passion. Today his team are division champions. The look on his face is worth every penny.

What do you mean by sports? Are you talking about rec leagues, or travel teams?

I played every sport I could when I was a kid. I played soccer, basketball, baseball, whatever I could get my hands on, I did it. When I wanted to focus on soccer at the ripe old age of 12, my parents said no. I threw fits, cried, yelled, pleaded, they just said no. It was too resource and time consuming. I thought for sure I could make a travel team and get good enough for a college scholarship. At twelve. They had plenty of resources and time, but it was an important lesson in management. Once I processed it, I played everything else too; football, wrestling, a bit of track n field, lacrosse, whatever else I could do to stay active. After high school, none of my peers on travel teams played soccer, and I was so grateful to have all of the other experiences. They were always playing soccer, while I spent summers at the beach.

Sorry if this is rubbing it in if you didn't get any opportunities to play sports, that's a shame. But I'm certain you found outlets elsewhere, be it in computers, video games, or whatever else nerds do (kidding). Sports are important, but there's plenty of other opportunities to get the same lessons.
