Health care is increasingly unaffordable for people with employer-sponsored health insurance—especially women

I lost one to torsion in 2016. Went to UC first. They couldn’t accurately diagnose because they didn’t have the ultrasound machine needed to check the blood flow. I ended up going to an imaging facility which then rushed me to ER.

I also happened to work for a health insurer at the time doing customer service. So after the fact I checked the ER policies. It clearly would have met the “prudent layperson” standard of emergencies that insurers must use as of healthcare reform in 2012, to determine whether to cover an ER visit.

My nut was almost certainly already gone by the time I went to UC so it likely wouldn’t have been a different outcome. But the bottom line is if your ball hurts, go to the ER.
