A Healthy Relationship With Fear

Scientists conducting experiments are supposed to detach themselves as much as possible from outcomes via the scientific method. An experiment ruled by personal bias is a failed experiment. Your perception of a failure on their part...doesn't really make sense to me. They wouldn't be conducting science if they did what you are describing.

I believe there is room in the world for scientific study and for personal experience, but that the two should not be confused. I believe that trying to force science to be something it's not is wrongheaded. Science is the study of the material world, and that is all. It's like saying that you think there should be more emotional attachment in mathematics. It doesn't really make sense.

What you're describing regarding people who view themselves as highly rational, I DO view those people as very biased without knowing it. Some of those people are scientists. Scientists can absolutely bring biases into the world of science, because human beings are flawed and biased by nature. But science itself is not the problem. And in many cases, it seems like the problem really is the paranormal community failing to understand why the results of their non-scientific experiments and studies are not permissible as actual scientific evidence, and getting very upset about it. It's not always gatekeeping, and it is often the fault of ignorance on our part. There is a measure of scientific illiteracy in the general public, myself included.

This "gatekeeping" frustration within us really should not be taken to such extremes that we start rejecting science itself. There's nothing wrong with science. Scientists are not our enemies. But they do on a daily basis have to combat the production of dangerous pseudoscience and political religious zealotry interfering with vital, life saving research, and when you consider that it's not hard to imagine why an entire group of people devoted to helping further the knowledge base of humankind might find us a little bit annoying or even dangerous.
