I hear that gay guys generally have a better sense of fashion. In what ways do gay men tend to show better taste with their apparel?

To tag on to this, yea the same thing has happened to me. I'm never quite sure if it's just style, or if it has to do with how I gesture a lot when talking, or any number of other factors. I'm never really offended, more just peeved that that's where they jumped to.

IMO the issue I have with the stereotype is I think it causes large swaths of the population to be ignored. There are thousands and thousands of gay men out there who don't fit the stereotypical young, white, skinny and fashionable checklist who no one acknowledges as gay. It frustrates me that when people talk about gay men in this sense, they traditionally mean (white), middle class, young and in shape and if you're black or fat or old you're barely recognized as gay. But beyond that, the stereotypical "gay fashion" I see tends to more traditionally be "young white men fashion". I work at a startup that went public a few years ago, and regardless of orientation nearly all the white guys here wear chukkas and oxfords, their clothes fit, etc. It's a casual dress environment, but I don't think I've ever seen anyone with cargo shorts/pants, and graphic tshirts are few and far between.

TL;DR = I think too many people confuse gay fashion for young white man fashion. It's not that different. It's just the only style most redditors are used to.
