I want to hear the perspective of actual Latinos/Hispanics on good ol’ mami dearest

I'm part Mallorcan. It's not a huge part of my heritage so I don't go around calling myself Hispanic.

If I'm filling out a form and it asks in a very literal way, "Do you have any Spanish heritage?" I say yes. But I don't call myself Hispanic in situations where I could unfairly benefit like applying for a scholarship or something.

But here's the weird thing. Every single time I've had a relationship with someone of non-Spanish European heritage, either they or their family members make a HUGE deal over the fact that I'm part Spanish.

I'm mostly northwest European. But people fixate on this one smidgeon of Spanish heritage that I have as if it poses a huge threat to their family and I'm going to somehow taint them for generations to come.

When I lived in a rural, waspy part of the US, employers made an issue of it. "What are you? Where are you from? Tell me where all your ancestors came from. Oh! You're not like us. You're not welcome here." (Apparently I don't look waspy European so I get questioned a lot.)

Non-Spanish white people are seriously prejudiced against Spanish white people, even if it isn't the majority of your heritage.

Based on my experiences with relationships and people of Alec Baldwin's age group, there's a good chance he wouldn't have wanted to marry and have kids with her if she was actually Spanish. Or if he did, his family would have had a problem with it. That's what usually happens.

So Hilaria and Alec and both scamming people, and it's sad they've made their kids so involved in it. It must have taken a lot of ego, a lot of narcissism, to think they could actually get away with it and I don't even have words for the current state of things - the fact that they're so publicly in denial and maintaining this lie.
