Hear this, Sanders supporters — you don’t need to back Hillary: You have every right to say “Bernie or bust”

Yes he did you can't go far from the actual malice requirement, either you have it or you don't. It is not about wanting corrections, removing the actual malice requirement would silence journalists, if only negligence were required, journalists would not be able to print articles.

I never called Trump a fascist, but let's go further than just silencing the media. Let's look at the 14 defining characteristics of fascism:

/1. Powerful and Continuing Nationalism - Fascist regimes tend to make constant use of patriotic mottos, slogans, symbols, songs, and other paraphernalia. Flags are seen everywhere, as are flag symbols on clothing and in public displays.

Is Trump a Nationalist? A pro-Trump Breitbart contributor seems to think so: http://www.breitbart.com/immigration/2015/08/07/whats-the-secret-to-donald-trumps-appeal-nationalism/

/2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights - Because of fear of enemies and the need for security, the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored in certain cases because of "need." The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

Does Donald Trump want to assassinate people? I think so: http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/02/politics/donald-trump-terrorists-families/

Is Trump a proponent of torture? I would say yes:https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/trump-says-torture-works-backs-waterboarding-and-much-worse/2016/02/17/4c9277be-d59c-11e5-b195-2e29a4e13425_story.html

Trump seems to think torture as an interrogation technique works, it does not it is used as a tool to make members of a nation feel safe: https://www.cgu.edu/pdffiles/sbos/costanzo_effects_of_interrogation.pdf

/3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause - The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial , ethnic or religious minorities; liberals; communists; socialists, terrorists, etc.

Does Donald Trump scapegoat? Sure: https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2015/12/07/e56266f6-9d2b-11e5-8728-1af6af208198_story.html

/4. Supremacy of the Military - Even when there are widespread domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected. Soldiers and military service are glamorized.

Does Donald Trump believe we should have a stronger military? Yup: http://www.militarytimes.com/story/military/2015/09/16/gop-debate-2/32509899/

/5. Rampant Sexism - The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Divorce, abortion and homosexuality are suppressed and the state is represented as the ultimate guardian of the family institution.

In some ways yes in some ways no, Trump is clearly not apposed to Divorce, abortion no, Homosexuality no, overall sexism, maybe?: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11987964/Donald-Trump-sexism-Republican-US-Presidential-candidates-gaffes.html

/6. Controlled Mass Media - Sometimes to media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in war time, is very common.

What we have been discussing, removing you can't weaken removing the actual malice requirement will certain censor the media.

/7. Obsession with National Security - Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses.

Here you go:http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2015/12/07/trump-muslim-immigration-presidential-campaign-editorials/76954372/

/8. Religion and Government are Intertwined - Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most common religion in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies or actions.

Most likely not.

/9. Corporate Power is Protected - The industrial and business aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite.

Killing the corporate tax:http://www.ontheissues.org/Celeb/Donald_Trump_Tax_Reform.htm

/10. Labor Power is Suppressed - Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government, labor unions are either eliminated entirely, or are severely suppressed.

Wages too high:http://www.cnn.com/2015/11/12/politics/donald-trump-explains-wages-too-high-comment/

Donald negotiating with his union? Nope.:http://www.thenation.com/article/donald-trump-expert-negotiator-refuses-to-meet-with-his-unionizing-workers/

/11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts - Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored or even arrested. Free expression in the arts and letters is openly attacked.

Not that I have seen.

/12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment - Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless power to enforce laws. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations.

No consequences for protestors-trump:https://theintercept.com/2016/03/11/trumps-good-old-days-when-battering-protesters-was-celebrated-in-the-white-house/

"At the same time, we have to give power back to the police, because crime is rampant"-Trump:http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/donald-trump-police_us_569869d1e4b0b4eb759df9b8

Crime levels continue to fall, also does not give me confidence he will go after police brutality.

/13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption - Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for national resources and even treasures to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders.

Again no corporate tax.

He doesn't know yet, because this is certainly important to me I don't know about you.

/14. Fraudulent Elections - Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation to control voting numbers or political district boundaries, and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections.

Has not yet been elected to office, so he unable to manipulate elections.

I count 10/14 one he currently does not have the power to manipulate.

I will not call Obama fascist for someone in his cabinet suppressing information relevant to national security. Although I think it is a fascist idea, I will not be harsher on Obama than I was on Trump. I did not call Trump a fascist for silencing the media, I said that was a fascist idea. Feel free to present that argument. Trump's intention could be to stop false articles, but removing the actual malice requirement would hinder free press. Silencing the media to protect yourself from criticism and silencing the media to protect national security are vastly different. Although I would concede that both are fascist ideas that I would rather not have. Fascist's silence the media to protect themselves from criticism, this is not what I see in your case.
