This is Heather Heyer. She gave her life today to resist White supremacist terror. Our president won't say her name, so we must. Say. Her. Name.

Now we can't hurt the poor racists' feelings. :(

I'm a very tolerant person. However, my step father is a coward who is a tour guide that works for tribes in Africa (he travels between countries for each half of the year), and for two years has been spouting racist BS, being a closet racist by saying the blacks are in his words 'uneducated, savage kaffas who are ruining the country. Reverse racism exists blah, blah, blah, they're rapists, the black community is terrible,' and a whole load of other insults. Then he tries the classic 'I don't think ALL blacks, your blacks are civil!'

But then I was ranting to my relatives about a racist teacher I have who told me she thinks black people are more prone to violence, then he piped up 'they are!'

One day we were arguing about something unrelated, and his moronic replies made me just lose ALL of my temper and dump everything I hated about him in one long rant. I called him a racist coward, in short who is afraid of black people and that if he was so sure about his opinions, why not say them to their faces?

He didn't say anything and laughed, I kept walking away but I went back and punched his arm. I was so furious at this man.

Then my mother gave me a row that basically boiled down to 'you hurt his feelings, his culture is different, you shouldn't have yelled, apologize blah blah blah, it's just his opinion!' And my mother was so SHOCKED that I screamed at him the way I did, as my poor supremacist step father was the victim.

In my family, standing up to racism is a bad thing. Even though my great grandfather fought the Nazis in WWII - Fml. You're completely correct on it being viewed as a 'bad thing' by whites.
