Helicopter flying over Chile gets blinded by protesters with lasers

"they have killed people, tortured people, sexually abused people, maimed and blinded people."

References? If you're talking about Pinochet-era abuses, then why are we having this discussion? Think like an adult.

"it's important to remember that the police were the ones that escalated the violence."

By showing up? No. What "escalated" the violence was closing the subway station. People rely on the subway. I know someone that had to walk hours to get home. The subway was closed because people weren't paying. I'm not saying everything the police/military have done is perfect. A lot of these police officers have never seen mass protests. In total, the police and protests have been pretty measured compared to other countries and considering the amount of people on the streets burning shit. When the far left controls the narrative, looting and pillaging is because of "neo-liberal policies" and when the police try to do something it's "police brutality." Then when the police fail to protect private businesses, it's "the government does not protect the people!" So there is literally no outcome that would please these people. Many of the protesters are ideologically Conservative. Chile is so different from the US that you cannot compare the two. A type of folk-socialism is ingrained in children in the school system and yet there exists an extreme classism. I strongly encourage people to seek out more nuanced views rather than Communist university students who are so aloof in their idealism it's impossible to get the truth out of them.
