Hell Knight design appreciation post

Doom 3 is a guilty pleasure of mine, still to this day. I was 12 when it came out, got it for Christmas that year because I was a HUGE DOOM and DOOM2 fan growing up (my dad had a family PC for as long as I can remember, I was just a child playing those games with a joystick).

After beating the Doom 3 campaign a couple times I decided to give multiplayer a shot, and man that game was criminally underrated. It wasn't up to the standards of say Quake 3, but it was fast paced, and the mods that were released made it feel more like a true arena style game to compete with Quake. I still hop in the servers and play deathmatch every now and then, believe it or not, the community is small but quite active. They played Doom3 at Quakecon in 2005, if I was older I definitely would've competed, I know most of the old pros who played Doom 3 briefly and eventually moved onto Quake 4, Quake Live, and now Champions. I'm now 27, I've played Doom 3 on and off for more than half of my life, and every time I join a server I have to use an alias because if I use my real in-game name, I'll get vote kicked by the idiots who think I'm cheating, it's a shame nobody from my old clan still plays it, and there's only 1-2 other really good players from back in the day who hop on to play on occasion.
