Hello, I just started using plex recently, I am under the impression that plex only uses my internet data tp download metadata, the plex server only has several movies and shows, and 27.5 GB are a lot for their metadata I guess! Am I missing something?

A couple thoughts.

  1. As others have stated, that's just telling you how many bits Plex has pushed out through your network interface. It doesn't differentiate between local network and internet traffic.
  2. If you're running Plex on the same machine your using to watch videos, then that data is most likely coming from the outside.
  3. If you're running Plex server on this machine and watching from a different device, 27 GB is absolutely not an issue. My plex server probably passes out 100 GB of data every day to the local network and internet combined.
  4. If you want to reduce data usage, be sure to disable trailer downloading. I find trailers to be kind of meaningless on a personal media server anyway, since all the stuff there is because it's been requested by somebody who's already watched a trailer.
