Yeah it's weird this is a thing now, I mean growing up I think all of us on the block had dogs and all of our parents worked all day. It's not like dogs being alone during working hours is a new thing.
My dog is hitting senior status soon but we got him around 4 years old or so and he's always been fine while we're at work. He gets a nice walk in the morning, a good long potty break when I get home and then another walk when it cools off. And of course, playtime/cuddles/fetch etc when we're home.
When we first started leaving him alone uncrated we put up a nanny cam just curious and he literally curled up, went to sleep, and only got up to find a new sleeping spot to lay in, until we got home.
Of course, the disclaimer here is if someone is bringing home a new puppy/working on housebreaking a dog, it isn't so cut and dry. If I had a puppy and house training was an issue I would just have someone come do a lunch time potty break. But that wouldn't be a forever situation, just until they're old and mature enough to be home alone during the day.
