I want to help in east Hastings but don’t know how

Start by supporting with your wallet. A lot of people of over the years are moved to help but then find out they are either in over their heads, have no idea of the lay of the land... or are perhaps not as willing to be amongst poverty as they thought they were.

I say this because long long ago was asked to go with one "community group" to UGM and it was the worst case of fish out of water shell shocked comfortable middle class suburbanites shell. They came in their matching sweatshirts and were all smiles... basically were so shocked (probably scared) that they ended up standing around doing nothing, saying nothing and us younger folk that they asked along did the lions share.

Money is time, money is resources, it's okay to start there because it helps the people who are there all the time and who do know the lay of the land. Money doesn't buy the warm fuzzy feeling of helping, but it is effective.
