[Help] Ever going to be able to adopt/purchase a dog again?

I'm not looking to get any dog currently. I know what breeds fit my lifestyle and routine, but the entire breed community I was involved with hates my guts. I'm more just asking if it's ever likely to go away/stop kicking me in the teeth for being stupid.

The dog was a temperamental mess, and the exact opposite of the breed standard that played heavy influence on our decision in the first place. She was very timid and fearful, hyper-active no matter how much we worked with her, obsessed with other dogs, and wanted absolutely nothing to do with people. We went to several different specialists on top of our regular vet, who told us that while we could change her behavior, her temperament wasn't likely to make any major shift and the biggest benefit for her would be being in a house with other dogs and someone who had experience dealing with early separated pups.

Between my health being compromised by the situation in whole and us feeling like we just weren't able to give her what she needed, it was the best decision. I did not want to have her medicated if a home existed where she could be happy being herself.
