Help guiding player with character creation

I checked out the comments and it seems like no one's really said this explicitly, so I'll make sure to point it out: D&D doesn't differentiate damage/stats the way that Dark Souls does. Some spells that clerics get access to do radiant damage, but there's no equivalent to "faith" that makes that radiant damage increase: other cleric spells can do fire damage, necrotic damage, force damage, etc. So it'll be important to make that distinction for your new player.

Here are some classes/subclasses that might fit more of the themes that player might be looking for:

Cleric: - war domain - death domain - tempest cleric

Other options: - zealot barbarian - battlesmith artificer - celestial warlock - honestly any paladin, but perhaps conquest or devotion at least get more of that "religion" flavor to it
