Help me not fail out of school by answering some interview questions!

When did you first start writing?

  1. Recently. I'm still fairly new to it. Was interested in graff from a pretty young age but didnt start doing it until I was about 14, like shitty shitty marker tags. By the time I was 17 I kinda took it more seriously and was doing a bit of everything and getting some decent spots from time to time and its gone from there.

Do you consider yourself a bomber? Writer? Artist? Why or why not?

  1. Writer. I write graffiti. I do mostly marker tags and piece interesting cool spots because I like exploring. I still bomb and stuff but I mainly try to pick shit that will last for a while and is a bit more cutty. I've been trying to get my throws consistently popping..

What cities have you lived in and what was their stance on graffiti? Did they have a dedicated vandal squad? How quickly was graffiti buffed/cleaned?

  2. I don't want to specify too much but I live in a smaller Australian city. There is no VS that the public is aware of, but transit police do investigate and keep a record and are pretty high tech when they want. Some spots can ruin for years, certain public af spots can run for months but the next-day buff is not uncommon either. Trains usually get buffed pretty quick (Same/ next day) unless it's a rare instance.

Did the way you paint change when you went to another city? How? Did you find yourself painting more tags in one city than another? Throws? Pieces? If you've only painted in one city, how has that city informed your graffiti?

  1. My city has informed my style to a small extent but there is no localized style really, but I think if you know enough about it you can kind of get a grasp for the local flavour. There is a good history, and a bunch of solid local influences who are doing shit the right way.

Do you think graffiti is over or under regulated by the law? Why?

  1. The government's stance on graffiti legal-wise is relatively strict. You can/will go to court for even simple possession of a marker or single can of paint if you don't make up a legitimates reason to have it, or even if you do if they 'suspect' you are going to commit a crime with it (If it's late or they profile you to be a writer). However if you're not doing anything too hectic if you're caught red handed or if it's just possession of an implement as a first (And even sometimes 2nd offender) you're let off pretty lightly and don't really get a conviction. You have to be repeat offending several times or really be fucking up trains. I don't think it is very harsh in reality to first/second offenders, but it is definitely over-regulated. Court appearance for having a marker or paint while simply being out for a night-time walk is ridiculous in my opinion ahah. Fuck the law.

How do you think the illicit nature of graffiti has impacted the formation and development of the culture?

It has completely shaped the direction it has took. I wouldn't know where to begin but if it was legal it would be like street art. Not all crimes are that bad.

If you need location info for a legitamate part of the paper just PM and I'll help ya out but
