Help me with this rescue dieffenbachia

Just found this sad looking dumb came marked for half-off in a box store garden centre. It had tons of large very brown/wilted leaves/stems and some brown wilting leaf ends.

I'm a plant newbie but hoping to keep it going— I trimmed its dead growths off with alcohol-cleaned scissors.

I placed it in an east-facing window that gets a fair amount of diffused light through semi-opened blinds. (Enough light that I had to move my thanksgiving cactus which was turning red from too much sun anyways...)

It feels moist about an inch deep in the soil and don't want to overwater it so haven't watered it yet.

Any knowledgeable folks have thoughts on its location/prospects/future care?
