I wish Richmond would give up and let big retail into the city. When Stoney was running for his first term he came to one of our union meetings and I was able to ask him questions in a more personal setting. He even said he tells people that Richmond is the only city where you can’t buy a TV and it’s been that way for years. You can’t even buy underwear or basic clothing in the city limits unless you want to buy them from Aldi or Kroger. I would love to see one of these new apartment buildings or renovations have real, decent clothing retail or a Target or Best Buy within the city limits. Why do we need three major grocery stores and the major local grocery store all basically bordering each other in Carytown? We need a real shopping district where people can spend their money in the city in a big way instead of doing it all in Henrico and Chesterfield. Some parts of Richmond seem like a really bad run on SimCity.
