There’s two sides to this though: there’s been a recent influx of turning characters black because of the establishment guilt of white washing from years ago. At the same time, if you do anything more than roll your eyes at it, you just need to get over it.

But as fans, we have the right to refuse to ingest something that goes against the intent of the original text. For example, when they made The Gunslinger black, I noped put because it took away a huge narrative arc from the books that told me they had no clue what they were doing and probably never even read past the first few books. Idris Elba is the man, but when a narrative section of a series has a whole element of a man’s eye color changing from blue to a different color and one of the characters is a split personality in which one is violent towards white men, it’s just a stupid casting choice.

But was I angry? Of course not. I chuckled and said “let the people who don’t love this text enjoy what is surely going to be a catastrophe.” And it bombed of course.
