Our story begins in a dirty old car on Lasqueti Island. For those of of you unfamiliar with the geography of British Columbia, it is one of many small islands, inhabited by hippies and old people and anyone who decided that frequent sociality was not his cup of tea. This would be a good time to mention that I have never set foot on Lasqueti Island, yet the events that unfolded in that car on that summer's day eventually led to my suspension.

Three of my best friends decided to go on a camping trip, I cannot for the life of me remember why I did not join, but my absence is irrelevant to the story. Perhaps I would have stopped them from going into that car, perhaps not. Nevertheless, the events that unfolded in that car on that summer's day eventually led to my suspension.

My three friends, most likely high as kites decided to enter, and most likely hotbox, an unlocked car they found on the side of the road. The most courageous of the bunch entered first, while my idiot Finish friend tried to discourage the courageous one from entering 'No Matthew, we'll get caught' he surely said. What an idiot. This is important, mostly for my Finnish friend- because his hesitance would later cost him his fair share of the content that was found in that car, on that summer's day.

Oh, his face must have looked like the face of a baby who first discovered the job of peeing on his parents. Full of awe, pride in his accomplishment, for being courageous, for going into that car anyway, despite being warned not too. You see, this is not just a story about my suspension. It is about pride, betrayal, rise of an empire and its subsequent collapse, when we were all suspended because of the contents that were found that summer's day, on Lasqueti Island.
