Hey Tea Bagger quit whining about your taxes!!

I'm pretty liberal. But look at this with me for a bit.

Current taxes (before the fantasy that Bernie can actually win a major election) are somewhat insane. And everyone with a job at Starbucks has no idea why people get a little pissed.

My wife is a nurse. Now, luckily, she's my wife and we file married. I say that, because I don't make much money because I'm going back to school. HOWEVER, let's pretend my wife (who works her ASS off) is single. She makes about $40k. Now, that sounds like a lot to someone earning $20-30k.

However, if you're single and make $25k a year, you take home about $20k. That's not too bad, right? In your mind, the only people who would pay out the nose are the 1%. Now let's look at a nurse making $40k. Remember, it takes college (money) to be a nurse. Under the CURRENT tax brackets, someone making $40k takes home about $24k. That's fucking inSANE. Especially because I know how hard my wife works for that $40k.

Now, let's look at being married. My wife makes $40k, but I don't come anywhere near that. But let's pretend that after college I land a job just paying $35k. That puts us in the same bracket that she would've been in single... but it's worse for married couples. If my wife made $40k and I made $35k for a combined income of $75k, our take home income would be $46k. That reduces her income to $26k and mine to $20k, and that's after attending college and working hard to move up a ladder.

I don't take threats to raise taxes to the "1%" lightly because many people don't realize how little it takes to be in the 1%. If you make just north of $500k, you're in the 1%. Yes, that sounds like a lot. But if you make $150k, you're in the top 10%. That might be a doctor or engineer. Not just a CEO or trust fund baby.
