@HeymanHustle: Once upon a time, my name was not allowed to be uttered w/in @WWE. 6 yrs ago to the day, @CMPunk changed all that.

See, here's the thing. Punk is just not relevant to the product so there's no real need to mention him on the show at any point. Even if they patch their differences, unless Punk returns to TV, there's nothing to be gained from referencing him as it doesn't relate directly to anybody who appears on TV or any storylines or historic events. Well, I guess you can bring up his lengthy title reign but it's pointless unless another wrestler is having a long run with the WWE Title and closing in on his record. Either that or whenever MITB is around and they can bring up that he's the only one to win it twice.

That goes for pretty much any past wrestler. Eddie Guerrero is only brought up when someone pays tribute to him. If Chris Benoit was not taboo, he would only be relevant when talking about Royal Rumble winners (specifically from #1) and Orton becoming the youngest champion (both of which are constantly brought up, but never specifying him). Also unlike legends like HBK, Austin or Bret, Punk is way too recent to reference in a legendary manner as in "So and so has faced and defeated greats like ___, CM Punk and etc".
