Hi guys, I have created a survey for my university final year project and it is all about achieving studio aesthetics in a live sound scenario. It would be great to get some responses from professionals that are not local to my area if you have the time.

Thank you for your response, to be honest I'd much rather explain the idea like this than try to get it across in a 6 question survey.

What I mean by a "studio aesthetic" is kind of like a studio mix, but its more about the overall sonic characteristics of the piece. The best example I can give is of a band that lets say want to emulate the production style of Rock n Roll in the 1950s because they are heavily influenced by this as an artist. Now obviously there are so many things that can be implemented in the studio to help achieve this, things like recording through tape, using microphones of the period and making sure the arrangement is suitable for the genre.

Whilst this is all comparatively easy to achieve in the studio, how would these characteristics be translated into the world of live sound and how viable are they? Is it viable to run the mix through a tape saturation plugin just to match the effect of the use of tape on the original piece?

One of the things I hoped to kind of reflect on later in my project is the idea that now whilst the technologies available for live sound are so advanced and the quality of sound which is being produced is so high, there is a possibility that we could now start seeing decisions being made to technically "worsen" the quality of sound being produced by these high quality pieces of gear in order to match the sound of the studio production.

I hope this has helped, I'm sorry if I yapped on for a bit. I'm also sorry if anyone was offended by the sex question, it was just something I was encouraged to include by my lecturers in order to ease people into the survey, which I did find a bit patronizing because it would have been a 5 question survey anyway.

But anyway, again thank you for the response and to everyone that responded on the survey, it all helps and I'm sorry if it wasn't clear.
