Hi Reddit, has anybody got any UFO stories?

My mother, bless her soul, is a conspiracy/religion theorist. Not saying she commits and lives on the letters of. She just drinks this stuff in. I'm talking Flat Earth, Hollow Earth, and Nephelem. Given that she was a Lead Electrical Drafter(By hand not computer) for a large power company, she is insanely smart.

As the story goes she saw what looked like a large shiny object. Not metal, she noted, but more liquid/viscous. Landing vertically, not phased by the wind. It appeared almost Opaque to the light in front and clear to the light behind it. Being on military bases all of her life, this was usually underwhelming(Weather Balloons mostly). She goes on to tell me that what makes the memory so vivid is the response.

Basically everything went to hell and fast. This is the 70's, during some of the heat of the Cold war, somewhere in Germany(she won't give specifics on that). Since the response was so strong she thought maybe that Russia was using some experimental designs and so on, however her father told her that it was fine and everyone else was an idiot(He retired O7 Army was 06 at the time of story). "He went on to say that it's just some visitors, taking care of business." This being confusing to her asked to go see what it was. He told her not to go and stay put, as he pulled the vehicle into a parking lot.

This is where things get strange. She recalls that she began to get dizzy and lost some time. The next thing she remembers is waking up in the car arriving at home. Her father was wearing what looked like a gas mask. This, she exclaimed was "damn frighening". He took off the mask and told her it was she was going to be ok and had a long day.

Since then she can't find anything about that day, and since her father was one of those that came into close down military bases, the base closed within a few months. She won't tell me the name of the base, I'm not sure why... it's been over 40 years at this point.

Now for me as a former MP for the USAF, I can tell you when someone is CONVINCED that what they are saying is true, and whether it's by memory, or imagination. This woman is BLUNT as can be. Even about herself and to her children. To this day, she hasn't outright lied to me, ever. The source to you is me through the internet, so take whatever this is with a grain of salt.

TL:DR Military Bases are weird.
