Hiding places in your house

It feels that you're mixing up several things here.

If you're worried about opportunistic burglaries, then come on - burglars try to be in and out in 5 minutes, and they are not gonna be unscrewing your light switches or disassembling your toilet. They are likely to go through every drawer and closet in your bedroom, check under the mattress, go through your medicine cabinet, maybe grab a Playstation - but not a whole lot more.

If you're worried about targeted burglaries - well, targeted burglaries don't happen without a reason, and they usually already know what to look for and where to check. They are not coming for loose change, they're looking for the valuable electronics, cars, or a collection of antiques.

If you're worried about systematic searches by non-crackheads... then yeah, there is some general awareness of the common hiding spots people use. Most of searches still do not include taking off any fixtures, cutting up your sofa, or examining every can in your kitchen or every book on your bookshelf, though.

There are many other less obvious hiding spots around the house; there's, for example, usually a good amount of room inside large appliances, including washers and dryers. But then, consider the risk of something valuable ending up at the dump, because... is your spouse gonna remember your stash of gold bars at the bottom of a malfunctioning dryer, ten years from now? What about your children?
