You know what "read the room" means? It generally means YOU know what part of the hivemind to tap into in order to gain upvotes or likes and so you know how to seem cool and gain what you feel like is popularity but in a completely intangible manner and you're tryna tell the person you're responding to to be as cool as you but THAT "COOLNESS" AIN'T WORTH SHIT. In this specific instance it means, "this bitch-ass sub has decided to applaud a defenseless receiver receiving brain trauma because he latched on to a reactionary ideology and while his ethnic group and circumstance remains marginalized we're gonna act like the stratification that comes part and parcel of the increased popularity of social media and the internet in general has given marginalized groups such as his the same ability to scrutinize themselves as white motherfuckers have had which allowed those white motherfuckers to say detached shit like 'read the room' while not having to feel like they still gotta pull their ethnic group up in some manner despite grassroots becoming less popular, not to mention that any psy-op and disinformation campaigns would have furthered that desperation on black people's part and detachment on white people's part."

So y'all became instantly hypocritical toward the player-safety sentiment that has been so major in the league's and the media's and fans' sentiments for close to a decade AS WELL AS derailed the more current sentiment of trying to understand where more marginalized groups of people are coming from. I want to point this out because Jackson is from Crenshaw and even after he was well-established in the league he was throwin up gang signs on national television, which are signs that he probably wasn't in a stable environment growing up and therefore may not have had access to—or been in the proper state of mind to be receptive to—good education. To wit, this "highlight" is exploiting a black man's desperation and pain in order to neuter a national conversation, which tend to stagnate anyway because of how talking points come and go at the whim of those who control the media.
