Have a highly anxious child (7yrs) have taken him to a psychologist and wondering if this is normal

I am fully aware that therapy doesn’t yield immediate results.

I’m sorry you felt like that as a child. I also had anxiety. I used to bite my fingernails off and pace the hallway of my house at night, checking everyone was still alive and my parents didn’t give a shit. It sucks and I can imagine an overbearing mum would be a nightmare too for other reasons.

There’s a balance we’re all probably trying to strike here.

I’m not sure if you’re trying to suggest passive aggressively that by me seeking help for my son that I’m overbearing? I’m taking my little boy to therapy because I would like him to be able to go to bed without him crying himself to sleep and maybe have the courage to talk to some other children some day. Maybe one day he might even get invited to a birthday party. I just want my boy to be happy.

You can take what you want from this but I just want to give him a better chance.
