I doubt that this is a test. The second answer is wrong. You can't go West in a full circle around the globe. The coordinate system of Earth is like a sine wave. You can go more and more West until you hit 180 degrees, then you're going East.

Imagine putting a NESW (never eat shredded wheat) compass on opposite sides of a globe. The East and the West directions are opposite. If you're in China and you want to go more East take a flight to Alaska. If you're in Seattle and you want to go more West, take a flight to Alaska. How can heading towards Alaska be more West and East at the same time? It's the coordinate system. It's like a sine wave. Above the x-axis is West and below is East in a full phase (360 degrees).

The second answer ends up being wrong despite what the media tells you. You can't go West in a complete circle in the East-West direction.

I don't think Elon is really that smart, but I think he's smart enough not to base hiring decisions off of a question like this.
